HARPER’S BAZAAR, The Leading Fashion Magazine

June 23, 2020 to January 3, 2021

On the occasion of the reopening of the fashion galleries, entirely renovated thanks to the patronage of Stephen and Christine Schwarzman, the Museum of Decorative Arts presents a large exhibition devoted to the famous American fashion magazineHarper’s Bazaar . Sixty couture and ready-to-wear creations, mainly from the museum’s collections, punctuated by loans of prestigious iconic pieces are presented in correspondence with their publication in this magazine. The gaze of the great photographers and illustrators who have made the reputation of Bazaar is thus put into perspective to sum up a century and a half of fashion history. Man Ray, Salvador Dali, Richard Avedon, Andy Warhol, and even Peter Lindbergh have indeed contributed to the magazine’s unparalleled aesthetics.

”  Harper’s Bazaar, the first fashion magazine  ” retraces the highlights of this legendary review, its evolution since 1867, paying tribute to the personalities who shaped it: Carmel Snow, Alexey Brodovitch and Diana Vreeland. All three, from the 1930s, propelled the magazine into the modernity of fashion and graphics, creating a requirement that is still in school.
